Dave Sheppard was born in Fort McMurray, Alberta, and moved to Bishop’s Falls Newfoundland at the age of five. Dave entered the visual arts program at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College in '97, which he completed the winter of 2001. Dave’s focus has been predominately towards the printmaking mediums, though he has recently rediscovered his love for drawing and painting. Since completing his undergrad, Dave has gone on to receive the Don Wright Print Scholarship, was nominated for emerging artist of the year, designed the Bishop’s Falls municipal town flag, won an Arts and Letters Award, and recently completed his second printshop residency at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College. Dave currently lives in Toronto and is actively producing a new body of artwork.

  Curriculum Vitae

Through the use of metaphors, narratives, and symbolism my artwork explores the many facets of being human. Loneliness, depression, mental disorders, phobias, and regret are just a few of the universal issues that we all deal with at some time or another throughout our lives. By using such strong subject matter I attempt to connect with the viewer on an emotional level.

As well, I have always had a deep fascination with the imagination. Stories involving fantastical places, people and situations have always intrigued me, and it is this ability in which the artist can create these invented realities that has always been a great source of inspiration for me in my artwork. It is this sense of wonder and curiosity that I hope to evoke in others.
